Koke'e Forest & State Park

Almost 13,000 acres of sacred ancient rainforest spread across the rugged, beautiful terrain known as Koke'e State Park. Unique, indigenous and native vegetation and wildlife - including many rare and endangered tropical birds and wildlife found nowhere else on earth - thrive in these sacred lands. Due to invasive species, the delicate ecosystems within this dense wilderness are in grave danger of extinction.

Malie is passionately committed to protecting this precious life and will donate a percentage of sales from our Koke'e collection to the Koke'e Resource Conservation Program (KRCP).

Malie's organic koke'e aroma collection is named in honor of Hawaii's oldest rainforest and captures the crisp, green, refreshing scent of the native maile (pronounced my-lee) vine, which grows within. Lush. Green. Vibrant with life! This exotic aroma envelops you - bright, pure, uplifting - filling you with peace, joy and tranquility.

Koke'e State Park

& The Koke'e Resource Conservation Program

World Wide, ecologists now recognize the forests of Kauai to be one of the areas of greatest native biodiversity in the entire Pacific Region. Koke'e State Park possesses one of the few remaining intact native forest communities in the state, and which is readily accessible for the public to experience and aid in its conservation. The much visited Koke'e, Waimea Canyon, and Na Pali Coast State Parks contain 26 threatened and endangered species and an additional 31 rare plants are found in scattered locations throughout these parks. Indeed, Hawaii has become the endangered species capital of the world.

The Program Objectives are:

  • To protect and restore the ecological integrity of selected areas of Kauai's upland forests by eradicating incipient invasive weeds from the Koke'e plateau and also suppressing widespread weeds in selected areas of intact native forest.

    • Engage the public in direct conservation action by building a strong educational volunteer program in conservation. Increase ommunity awareness of native Hawaiian ecology through education and participation in hands-on activities in the state parks and surrounding forests.

      • Strengthen cooperation between private and public conservation related agencies and the community in addressing forest conservation on the island of Kauai.

Visit www.krcp.org to learn more about the forest and to donate.
