Exfoliate and Hydrate With Body Scrubs

Soft skin is something we’re all after but it can be hard to achieve if you spend all day outside, exposed to the elements. Living your life in the sand and the sun (as many of us in Hawai’i do) is great for the body and the soul but it’s equally important to take care of your skin. The right body exfoliating scrub for your body can help slough off excess dirt and oil so all you’re left with is healthy, glowing skin.

Exfoliate and Hydrate With Body Scrubs

Finding the right scrub is an art in and of itself. Some people think the harsher the better but that’s seldom the case. You don’t want to cause irritation, which is what some super intense body wash scrubs can do. Instead, the goal is to gently exfoliate. This helps promote new skin cell generation for a more radiant complexion throughout your entire body.

This guide will give you several pointers for what to look for in a body scrub. We’ll go into the benefits of proper exfoliation and give you tips on the best body wash scrubs to use to meet your goals.

About Body Scrubs

First things first, let’s get one thing straight: a body scrub isn’t going to replace your body wash. Sure, body wash scrubs exist and they are products that combine the benefits of an exfoliant with a body wash. But if we’re talking strictly about an exfoliator, this should be used in conjunction with a body cleanser.

Exfoliating scrubs work a bit differently than washes. Exfoliators get rid of dead skin cells so new cell regeneration can occur. Body washes, on the other hand, are meant to remove impurities while providing the hydration and moisturization your skin needs to remain supple and firm. When used together, these body products offer a fantastic way to keep your skin looking and feeling its best.

What to Look for in Body Scrubs

Everyone’s skin care needs are different, so it’s important to take any recommendations  for products with a grain of salt (or sand). For example, some people may have particularly rough elbows while others could suffer from hormonal breakouts on their chest and back.

Before choosing a body scrub, look into its ingredients to see if there’s anything that might irritate your skin. The best exfoliating body scrub will be made from mostly natural ingredients and will contain simple components. Truly, all you need is the right mix of oils, sugar, and a few other additions.

Also important is to take note of what is absent from the formula. This pertains to things that likely won’t help your skin and certainly won’t help the environment. Specific ingredients to look out for include parabens, sulfates, phthalates, petrochemicals, mineral oil, silicone, talc, and gluten. Malie Organics’ body polishes are completely devoid of these ingredients so you can feel good about what you’re putting on your body.

Different Types of Body Scrubs

Exfoliate and Hydrate With Body Scrubs

There are various types of exfoliating body scrubs available. Some are mixed with cleansers while others are straight up polishes. At Malie, our Body Polishes are made of 99% organic ingredients. As always, remember to look into the ingredient profile before using any product just to make sure it’s safe for you and your skin type.

Once you’ve determined what that is, the next step is to find the right scent. Malie offers several scent profiles in our Body Polish collection.

After You Scrub…

Just as important as the scrub itself is what you do after it. In general, it’s typically a good idea to follow up with a moisturizer for the body, as this will help you maintain the benefits of your scrub and keep your skin healthy, hydrated, and moisturized. Malie’s body polish contains a healthy amount of natural oils, making it extremely moisturizing as well as exfoliating. That means that you don’t even need to use a moisturizer or body cream afterwards unless that’s your preference. If it is, we have several options for post-scrub body care.

Body Cream

A nourishing body cream will always be a good idea after a body scrub. Our Hawai’i-inspired creams are rich in beneficial ingredients like Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and Kukui Nut Oil as well as vitamins A and E. They also contain Omegas 6,9, and 3 to promote a youthful appearance. These moisturizing products absorb quickly without leaving behind a greasy residue.

Body Gloss

Like a lip gloss but for your whole body, Malie Organics’ Body Glosses glide effortlessly onto the skin. They not only leave behind a luscious and glossy sheen but they also provide a protective barrier to lock in moisture. Your skin will feel flowing and hydrated but never greasy. Plus, our body gloss can go on wet or dry skin and tends to last even longer than lotion.

Botanical Butter Bun

Much like a body gloss but in one compact bun formation, this indulgent moisturizer is the ultimate for in-shower hydration. After you exfoliate with your scrub, all you need to do is run the bun under warm water and run it over your skin. The bun will do all the work. Step out of the shower, pat dry yourself, and you’ll be good to go!
