Giving Back Is Beautiful

At Mālie, we believe the essence of real beauty comes from within — and part of that beauty comes from helping others.

We are all one ’ohana in our community; giving back is an important part of caring for each other and our ‘āina. Mālie has been dedicated to 20 years of donations in our beautiful home, Hawai’i. This mindset inspires our #GivingBackIsBeautiful campaign, in which we donate to charitable causes close to our hearts.

Since the start of 2017, Mālie has donated more than $90,000 of campaign profits to a diverse range of organizations. The core values of #GivingBackIsBeautiful are environmental preservation, poverty, and helping the children of Hawai’i.

Product Collaboration with The Friends of ‘Iolani Palace

Ongoing Now!
• Total Donated So Far: $17,538

A National Historic Landmark, built in 1882 by King Kalākaua, ‘Iolani Palace was the political and social home of Hawai’i’s last reigning monarchs and served as the official royal residence of the Kingdom until the overthrow of the monarchy in 1893.

As stewards of the Palace since 1966, The Friends of ‘Iolani Palace organization is dedicated to preserving, restoring, protecting, sharing, and celebrating the culture and history of the Palace and its grounds for the benefit of native Hawaiians, the people of Hawai’i, and the world.

In honor of King Kalākaua, and coinciding with the anniversary of the start of his reign 150 years ago (1874), Mālie is honored to partner with The Friends of ‘Iolani Palace to offer two products that pay tribute to the fragrance noted to be treasured by our King — the native maile vine. During Kalākaua's 1881 trip around the world, the King traveled with bottles of maile cologne, carrying with him a sense of the fresh, fragrant mountains of home.

Fans of ‘Iolani Palace are given opportunity to give back through their purchase by shopping Mālie's ‘Iolani Palace Maile Collection, where 100% of the proceeds are donated to The Friends of ‘Iolani Palace!

Limahuli Garden & Preserve

• Total Donated: $14,921

Built on the footprint of Hawaiian ancestors, Limahuli Garden & Preserve is located on the north shore of Kaua'i in one of the most biodiverse valleys in the Islands. Home to dozens of endangered plants and birds found nowhere else on earth, Limahuli Garden & Preserve highlights native and culturally significant species in an authentic Hawaiian landscape. The Garden is a pu'uhonua (place of refuge) for an ecological system that honors the connection between nature and humanity, where indigenous traditions live in the 21st Century. Limahuli adapts ancestral resource management practices to address contemporary conservation challenges and restore health, function, and resilience to the valley.

Once abundant across the Hawaiian Islands, with deep cultural roots in our forests and communities, one our island's key, cherished species, ʻŌhiʻa, are sadly under attack, threatened by Rapid ‘Ōhi‘a Death or ROD, a fungus that attacks and kills. ʻŌhiʻa play a vital role in maintaining forest health, safeguarding valuable resources, nurturing diverse plant life, and providing a haven for unique native fauna and Limahuli Garden & Preserve is dedicated to the mission of saving these beloved trees.

Mālie offers a unique way to give a meaningful gift that will have a lasting impact on ʻŌhiʻa and all that they sustain through shopping our ‘Ōhi‘a Lehua Collection (available only during the winter holiday season) where 10% of all sales from this collection have been donated to Limahuli Garden & Preserve to save and perpetuate our treasured ‘ʻŌhiʻa. (In 2023 we also donated to our wonderful partners at the Kaua’i Invasive Species Committee.)

We've been developing a partnership and continued friendship with the Garden through various donation drives, contributing a portion of all sales for a period of time. In 2018 severe flooding hit the North Shore of Kaua’i and closed the highway that leads to Limahuli Garden & Preserve. During this time, they were hard at work making improvements to impacted areas and rebuilding for 21st-century resilience. None of this could have been possible without the support of the surrounding community who have all shared this period of healing and rebound together. Limahuli remains a place of resilience for generations to come.

Habitat for Humanity Maui

• Total Donated: $25,200

On August 8th, 2023, devastating wildfires hit three towns on the island of Maui; Kula, Kīhei and Lāhainā . Amongst the three, the most devastating occurred in Historic Lāhainā where hundreds of structures were damaged or destroyed resulting in families, businesses, and communities losing everything overnight.

Many homes on Maui are multigenerational households, common given Hawai'i’s housing crisis. The disaster left thousands of residents displaced. The destruction caused by these fires is truly heartbreaking. It is going to be a long road for the people affected and our vision extends beyond the immediate recovery. We want to invest in helping to rebuild homes.

Habitat for Humanity Maui stands with the community and is committed to supporting those affected by the disaster. This contribution will go directly to help rebuild homes for those who lost everything in the devastating fires.
